Well here are two pics of what we selected as the best open top in show. Yep it really is an open top, the top is a hard top but is designed to be taken off when the whim is there to drive it that way. The Car was originally Hand built as a custom car for the original owners. It is called an Excalibur? The third pic is of the owner. He was just so happy to have won….and with his helmet (one of ours) that was his prize! That makes me feel great when the helmets are appreciated and enjoyed….as this one is going to be!! Guess we’ll do the same next year…..

This time Gareth was at the show with his team doing what they do!! Here’s a couple of pics of Gareth’s little toy. Gareth is linked to this site through the Hot Rod Heaven link…have a look it’s a Khoul site….and what’s more they do some excellent projects…but don’t take my word for it…..have a look and judge for yourself

Well this meet has been and gone. It was the 15th time I’ve attended. When I started it was being held at the Rotorua Racecourse. For the last two years, it has been moved out to the Rotorua Stock Car track. I understand this is going to be the new home for this meet. It is a great Venue…..if the weather allows it to be. One thing nobody can control (just yet) is the weather. This years meet was really dumped on by the weather….the wind was a nightmare, and the rain was really unrelenting. In the end the weather won on the day. The meet efectively wound up around 1pm. Making it not the best day for the trade stalls, but really was understandable. HOWEVER….we now have the Palmerston North Hot Rod Club Show and Swap meet coming up on the 6th of August. This is held out at Manfield Raceway (Fielding). Which really is a superb venue. There is more than abundant outside swap meet area. Then there is a huge inside area for the show and trade stalls. It is all weather venue, and a great show. Yes we will be there. Once again we are sponsoring the best open top car in the show.

Well I guess I’ve been wearing Bib Fronts for a while now!!

Those that know me will know I tend to live in Overalls, one way or another…..I kind of feel that they are good practical, all purpose clothing…..

Well this meet has been and gone, it was last weekend (22 May).

It was the first time this club has held a swap meet. For a first time event it was real good. Sure there were a few things they’ll need to look at. I’m sure that they’ll do this and that the meet will grow and develop over the next few years. The best thing people can do, to help this happen, is to support them and their meet. I think that this will happen and I plan to keep on with them…..Capital Rodders well done!!

The next planned two shows I’ve got coming up are:

The Rotorua Vintage Car Club Swap meet. This is due to be held on the 10th of July. This is usually a real great meet , with this in my mind I’m really looking forward to it. Last year it was held at the Stock Car Track….this was a great “New” venue. They were telling me last year, that there were plans to further develop the site…..so this year it should be bigger and better than ever!! Can’t wait.

The next show after that is the Palmerston North Hot Rod Club show and swap meet at Manfield raceway…… just a Super venue, and Super meet. I usually have tons of fun…..and might I add “a Barrel of Laughs”. Last Year we supplied a motoring helmet for the best open top on show….Yep, we’re doing it again this year as well. So as I say….if you want to come and find me, and rattle my chain, at either of these shows….be my guest! I’d love to see you and have a chat and or a laugh!

Wellington Hot Rod Club Swap Meet

It’s the Wellington Hot Rod Club Swap Meet this week end.  It’s on Sunday 22nd. Kicks off at 7am. At the Trentham Race course.

It’s my first time at this show….hoping it’s going to be a good one!!  I’m under cover which is great……as now I don’t have to worry about the weather.

So just feel free to come along and rattle my chain!

Trev was at the National Motorcyle Expo over the Easter weekend.

I’m sure he’ll put some words up here to detail how much fun he had, but in the meantime he was well impressed by the work of the crew from ECM (East Coast Motorcycles), who are based in Warkworth.

Here’s some pics of their awesome ride, which took out Best American Chopper and Most Inspiring Build.

NZ Today magazine cover - Trevor Lamb

Well, strike me down, it seems that the cover model for the latest edition of NZ TODAY is none other than our good mate Trevor Lamb. And even more astonishing, retailers have neither refused to stock it, or organised a book-burning!

NZ Today magazine cover - Trevor LambIn fact, the opposite seems to have happened- it sold out in Carterton and had to be re-ordered. I’m obviously nominating the magazine editor for a New Zealand Cross, because I can’t think of anything more brave than sticking Trev on the front and expecting to sell copies.

For my money, writer and photographer Allan Dick has captured a lovely slice of Carterton. Too often some round-ups I’ve read suggest that essentially there are no eateries or accommodation in Carterton, and that you may as well head to Greytown. In Allan’s travels across the north isle, he displays a knack for uncovering local gems and obviously enjoys talking to people from all walks of life. He then does a great job of sharing those stories on paper.

So if you get a chance, grab a copy. For Catertonians, it’s an interesting perspective on Stonehenge Aotearoa, our various mayors, the Matador Motel, Cafe Mirabelle and of course, our man Trevor. But the rest of the article, taking in Whanganui, Wellington, Castle Point and more, is fascinating too, and Allan’s photos are stunning. Highly recommended!

Anyway, I’ve uploaded pics of the Trev bits- click on them to see them bigger.

Cheers,

Trev’s good mate Joel Liochon moved to France last year. Joel’s an amazing illustrator and jewellery designer, as well as being a huge steampunk fan. So it’s little wonder that he loves Trev’s astonishing steampunk helmets, and spends time wandering around Paris in one.

Happily, he’s sent some photos over, so you can see the helmet out in the wild.

It looks like Joel’s in some weird and wonderful steampunk museum. Ah, those crazy Frenchies- you’ve got to love them!
