A trip to Palmy
Last Saturday Trudy and I got up real early- well, were away on our bikes by 7am heading over to Palmerston North. Off to catch the Grandkids’ dance class. When we left it was a light frost but turning into a great day…
By the time we were heading out of Masterton (the next town) fog was rolling in. We pushed on though. Shortly Trudy says “Do you want to head home?” “Nah we’re over half way now”.
We pushed on and it got colder, and we got damper!! After Eketahuna it just got colder, and colder. Before we got to Pahiatua, I realised I was covered in ice! The padding around my helmet had iced up…my leather jacket was covered in a layer of ice, and I could hardly feel my hands.
We stopped off at Pahiatua, and had a hot drink to thaw out a bit. The locals there said they reckoned the fog would be cleared by the time we got half way throught the Manawatu Gorge, and it did. But the point of the trip was to catch the Grandkids’ dance class. and we missed it!! Bugger…
But hey, the trip home was real great, with the usual buzz you get from a great ride. The moral of the story is probably in the winter if you want to catch the grandkids dance class take ya car! Not anywhere near as much fun though…
