Well, strike me down, it seems that the cover model for the latest edition of NZ TODAY is none other than our good mate Trevor Lamb. And even more astonishing, retailers have neither refused to stock it, or organised a book-burning!
In fact, the opposite seems to have happened- it sold out in Carterton and had to be re-ordered. I’m obviously nominating the magazine editor for a New Zealand Cross, because I can’t think of anything more brave than sticking Trev on the front and expecting to sell copies.
For my money, writer and photographer Allan Dick has captured a lovely slice of Carterton. Too often some round-ups I’ve read suggest that essentially there are no eateries or accommodation in Carterton, and that you may as well head to Greytown. In Allan’s travels across the north isle, he displays a knack for uncovering local gems and obviously enjoys talking to people from all walks of life. He then does a great job of sharing those stories on paper.
So if you get a chance, grab a copy. For Catertonians, it’s an interesting perspective on Stonehenge Aotearoa, our various mayors, the Matador Motel, Cafe Mirabelle and of course, our man Trevor. But the rest of the article, taking in Whanganui, Wellington, Castle Point and more, is fascinating too, and Allan’s photos are stunning. Highly recommended!
Anyway, I’ve uploaded pics of the Trev bits- click on them to see them bigger.
Cheers,
